Pricer joins the Eurostars-funded SELECT project to advance the development of sustainable electronics
30-September 2024 — Stockholm, Sweden — Pricer, the leading in-store automation and communication solutions provider, today announces its participation in the SELECT (Sustainable Electronics for Energy Harvesting Applications) project, which has received funding through the Eurostars programme, the largest international funding programme for SMEs collaborating on Research & Development (R&D) projects.
The collaborative SELECT initiative brings together leading innovators from across Europe to develop a scalable platform for energy harvesting technologies, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of electronic devices.
As a key partner in the project, Pricer is focused on pioneering the development of batteryless electronic shelf labels (ESLs) for use in retailers’ stores. By leveraging energy harvesting technologies, these new-breed of ESLs are designed to operate without traditional batteries, and instead draw power from indoor ambient light. This advancement will contribute to a more sustainable retail environment, reducing the need for battery replacements and minimising electronic waste.
Pricer’s role in the project aligns with its long-standing commitment to innovation and sustainability within the retail sector. By collaborating with leading sustainability-focused partners, Pricer aims to contribute to creating environmentally friendly, cost-effective solutions that meet the growing demand for sustainable electronics.
“We are excited to be part of the SELECT project and to work alongside some of Europe’s top innovators in this field,” said Chris Chalkitis, Chief Digital Officer at Pricer. “This project represents a significant step forward in our efforts to develop sustainable, energy-efficient solutions for our customers. We believe that the advancements made through this collaboration will have a lasting positive impact on both the environment and the retail industry.”
The SELECT project will focus on integrating various cutting-edge technologies, including ultra-low-power microcontrollers (ONiO), photovoltaics (Epishine), eco-friendly supercapacitors (Ligna Energy) and fully recyclable and biodegradable PCB laminates (Jiva Materials). The goal is to create a versatile platform that can be applied to a wide range of IoT and small electronics applications, starting with Pricer’s ESLs and next-generation remote controls from 4MOD Technology.
