Walmart has announced a groundbreaking strategy to lead the future of Adaptive Retail, focusing on deeply personalized, technology-driven shopping experiences. The company is harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI (GenAI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Immersive Commerce to enhance the way customers engage with Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs, and virtual platforms.
Global Chief Technology Officer Suresh Kumar emphasized the shift from traditional methods, such as search bars, to more innovative and tailored shopping approaches. At the core of this transformation is “Wallaby,” Walmart’s proprietary large language model (LLM) platform designed for the retail environment. Wallaby integrates Walmart’s vast data to deliver highly personalized and context-driven experiences, aligning with the company’s values and enhancing customer interactions, including through an improved AI-powered Customer Support Assistant.
Walmart’s AI-powered systems are set to create unique, personalized shopping journeys on Walmart.com and extend these experiences to international markets like Canada and Mexico. The technology will offer customized content and item recommendations, aiming to replicate the feel of a personalized in-store experience.
Pushing the boundaries of retail, Walmart is also exploring the immersive commerce space with augmented reality and virtual environments. Through its Retina AR platform and collaboration with virtual platforms like Roblox, Unity, and ZEPETO, Walmart is creating engaging shopping experiences that blend the digital and physical worlds.
As Walmart continues to innovate, the future of retail will be shaped by this seamless integration of cutting-edge technology, all designed to meet customer needs with precision and ease.
