Kroger Health is not just a leader in healthcare innovation but also a steadfast advocate for community well-being. In its latest initiative, the healthcare division of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) announced an expansion of its prescription drug safety education program, “Prescription Drug Safety: Know the Truth,” to more than 470 schools nationwide. This expansion underscores Kroger Health’s commitment to addressing critical social issues through education and community outreach.
Since its launch in 2018 in collaboration with EVERFI®, a pioneer in social impact education, the program has reached over 170,000 students. The initiative teaches young people the science of addiction, the risks of prescription drug misuse, and the importance of safe medication storage and disposal—all at no cost to schools. This initiative exemplifies Kroger Health’s proactive stance in nurturing safer and healthier communities.
“The dangers of prescription drug misuse are all too real,” stated Colleen Lindholz, president of Kroger Health. “By expanding this program with EVERFI, we aim to empower young people with the knowledge to recognise and address the warning signs of abuse and misuse.”
Alice Lee, head of Customer Experience and K-12 at EVERFI, added, “Knowledge is transformative. By educating youth on prescription drug safety, we’re not only addressing an immediate crisis but also fostering healthier, more resilient communities for the future.”
This program aligns with Kroger’s broader mission to move beyond traditional retail and embrace a community-focused approach. With more than 2,200 pharmacies across 35 states and over 220 in-person clinics, Kroger Health serves 17 million patients annually. Its innovative “food as medicine” philosophy further emphasises prevention and long-term health.
A Legacy of Community Impact
Kroger has always been more than a supermarket—it is a cornerstone of local communities. Whether addressing food insecurity through its #ZeroHungerZeroWaste initiative or promoting public health through educational programs, Kroger continues to set benchmarks for corporate social responsibility.
By extending its prescription drug safety program, Kroger Health is reaffirming its role as a change-maker. This initiative is a testament to the company’s belief in empowering individuals with the tools to make informed choices, contributing to a safer and healthier society.
