The $400 million redevelopment of Adelaide Central Market, known as Market Square, has successfully secured Coles as a major tenant. The new 1,700 sq m Coles supermarket will be part of an upper-level specialty retail precinct focused on local produce and suppliers, with an expected opening in the last quarter of 2026.
The Market Square project aims to create a vibrant retail and hospitality hub, featuring a market hall, elevated garden, hotel, 234 apartments, and office spaces. Several government departments and law firm Thomson Geer have also been confirmed as tenants. This development is anticipated to generate numerous local jobs in both construction and retail sectors, enhancing the retail experience in South Australia. Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith emphasized that the project will establish Market Square as one of Adelaide’s most exciting retail destinations.
