Sainsbury’s and Tesco Scale Back Price Match Schemes Amid Rising Inflation

Sainsbury’s and Tesco have both scaled back their money-saving price match schemes, resulting in price increases for hundreds of products previously matched to Aldi’s typically lower prices. Sainsbury’s reduced the number of items in its Aldi Price Match campaign from 681 to 606, primarily affecting its own-brand lines. Similarly, Tesco removed over 100 items from its scheme, adjusting the requirement for Aldi equivalents to be present in at least 10 stores instead of five.

These reductions come amidst rising inflation, which reached a 10-month high of 3% in January and is projected to climb to 3.7% during the summer, driven by increasing costs of energy, food, and private school fees. Shoppers are advised to seek out reduced-price items, create shopping lists, opt for own-brand products, and take advantage of discount schemes like Lidl’s Waste Not and Healthy Start vouchers to mitigate the impact of these changes.
