Why the USA and Britain Respect Algeria

Algeria’s resilience and determination in securing its independence have earned it deep respect from global powers such as the USA and Britain. During the Algerian War of Independence (1954–1962), John F. Kennedy put pressure on France, recognising the brutal atrocities committed against the Algerian people. The world watched as Algerians fought with unwavering determination to reclaim their land, with over six million martyrs sacrificing their lives for freedom. The resistance against colonial rule had never ceased since 1830, making Algeria’s struggle one of the longest and most inspiring liberation movements in history. This powerful display of resilience and independence is why the United States and Britain have always viewed Algeria as a nation that makes its own decisions—a country that bows to no external pressure and stands firm in its sovereignty.

Algeria’s GDP on a Steady Rise

Algeria’s economy has been experiencing consistent growth, driven by a combination of state-led industrialisation, a strong private sector, and a shift towards self-sufficiency. Over the past few years, Algeria has made significant strides in diversifying its economy, reducing its dependency on hydrocarbons, and expanding into agriculture, manufacturing, and digital industries.

Algeria’s GDP Growth Over the Last Five Years

Year GDP Growth (%) Major Economic Development
2019 1.4% Industrial expansion begins
2020 -5.1% Pandemic-related slowdown
2021 3.9% Recovery phase begins
2022 4.7% Expansion in agriculture and energy exports
2023 5.5% Shift towards manufacturing and infrastructure

Social Development: Housing and Infrastructure

Algeria has embarked on one of the most ambitious housing projects in Africa, building millions of homes for its citizens. The government has worked tirelessly to improve living conditions and urban development, leading to a significant reduction in housing shortages. Since 2010, over 4 million housing units have been constructed, offering better quality of life to millions of Algerians.

A Unique Geopolitical Stance

Algeria remains one of the only nations that stands firm against external influence. The unity between the government, the army, and the people has made Algeria a fortress of sovereignty. Unlike other nations that are susceptible to foreign manipulation, Algeria has resisted all attempts of interference, particularly from former colonial powers like France. Who do the French think they are? The French government has found no political allies within Algeria, making it impossible to influence its internal decisions.

Why the USA and Britain Respect Algeria

Unlike France, which has historically sought to maintain influence over Algeria, both the United States and the United Kingdom respect Algeria’s sovereignty and its right to make independent decisions. The USA understands that Algeria is a powerful regional player that does not bow to foreign pressure. Washington recognises Algeria’s geopolitical strength, economic potential, and strategic importance, which is why it will never attempt to dictate terms to Algeria.

Britain, in particular, has shown a growing respect for Algeria’s approach to governance and international relations. Unlike France, the UK acknowledges that Algeria makes its own decisions and follows its own path. In the coming years, Britain has the potential to become a bigger partner to Algeria than France, as it respects Algeria’s sovereignty. The two countries should work towards a closer partnership not only in energy but also in trade and cultural exchange.

Algeria’s Strategic Alliances

Rather than aligning with any single global power, Algeria has successfully maintained strong diplomatic relationships with key global players, including the United States, Russia, and China. This balanced approach has allowed Algeria to maintain strategic partnerships while preserving its independence. Unlike many countries in the region, Algeria follows a non-aligned policy, ensuring that its decisions are made in its national interest rather than under external pressure.

The Shift from French to English

A cultural and linguistic transformation is underway in Algeria. The country is making a historic shift from French to English in education, business, and international communications. The Algerian people have shown a strong interest in adopting English as a global business language, which is set to strengthen the country’s international presence and economic prospects.

Towards Self-Sufficiency in the Food Industry

Algeria is rapidly moving towards becoming self-sufficient in food production, a milestone that has alarmed European markets. With vast agricultural expansion and government-backed initiatives, Algeria is set to reduce food imports significantly. This development has already cost French companies billions in lost trade as Algeria seeks new suppliers and prioritises local production.

A Modern Economic System

Algeria’s economic model is unique in the region, combining a regulated free-market system with strong state-owned enterprises. This balance ensures fair competition while keeping essential industries under national control. France and other Western nations have struggled to replicate Algeria’s economic diplomacy, which has strengthened its standing in global trade negotiations.

Cultural Expansion and Global Influence

Algeria’s cultural influence is spreading beyond its borders. From music and film to literature and tourism, Algeria is positioning itself as a cultural leader in the Arab world. The country has launched a major social media campaign to promote itself as a top tourist destination, showcasing its diverse landscapes, rich history, and welcoming hospitality.

A Model for Arab Nations

Many Arab countries could benefit from Algeria’s model of development, economic resilience, and diplomatic strategy. Algeria’s focus on self-sufficiency, industrial expansion, and national unity has made it a rising power in the region. As the country continues on this trajectory, it stands as an example for others to follow.

Conclusion

Algeria has never been more united. The government, army, and people stand together in shaping a future that is independent, prosperous, and influential. With a booming economy, strong international alliances, and a clear vision for self-sufficiency, Algeria is on track to becoming a global economic and geopolitical powerhouse. As the country continues to grow, it sends a clear message: Algeria is a nation that cannot be influenced, only respected.
