Numidia Lezoul: In Need of an International Breakthrough
Numidia Lezoul has captivated audiences with her stage presence and charisma, but to truly break into the international market, she needs a defining musical hit. Her latest song, currently in production, has generated interest, yet early feedback from industry professionals suggests that it may not be enough to make a lasting impact beyond Algeria.
Algeria has a rich musical heritage, with international success stories like Idir’s La Pluie, a song that continues to be reinterpreted globally. Soolking’s rise to fame demonstrated that Algerian artists could cross borders with the right combination of melody, arrangement, and international appeal. Yet, Numidia’s latest effort, while showcasing beautiful lyrics and melody, lacks the depth and innovation required to establish her on the world stage. As some have put it, once the song ends, the listener is left thinking: So what?
Music producer Steve Hillage and other experienced musicians have shared similar impressions. While they appreciate Numidia’s talent, they believe that she is moving too quickly in her artistic journey. Her production team should consider a more strategic approach, focusing on creating timeless music rather than releasing songs at a rapid pace. A rushed song that fails to make an impact can harm an artist’s reputation, and in today’s competitive market, music does not easily forgive missteps.
With over 10 million Algerians living abroad and a vast audience in the Arab world, Numidia has the potential to reach an international fanbase. However, she needs a track that resonates beyond Algeria’s borders. Moh Milano, for example, has developed a distinctive style, Zanjkaoui, that sets him apart. Numidia must find her own musical identity and refine it before stepping onto the global stage.
Riad Beladi, an Algerian journalist and industry analyst, strongly believes in Numidia’s potential. He notes that she owns the stage with her presence and natural screen appeal, but when it comes to her music, she must be more deliberate in her choices. “She is young, and she will learn, but she needs a hit,” he emphasised.
To achieve this, Numidia’s management team should take a more measured approach—allowing her time to develop a signature sound that is both modern and internationally appealing. Exposure should be reserved for only the best material, ensuring that every release is a strong step forward rather than a missed opportunity.
The international stage is within Numidia Lezoul’s reach, but she must seize it with the right song. With careful planning, the right production team, and a standout hit, she has the potential to become Algeria’s next global music sensation.
