Opera joins the AI race behind Google and Microsoft by incorporating ChatGPT into its search engine.

Opera has unveiled a new feature that will be included in the sidebar of its browser. A ChatGPT-powered application called “shorten” may be used to create summaries of webpages and publications.

A ChatGPT-powered tool that creates condensed summaries of web pages and articles is now available in the sidebar of Opera. The “shorten” function is a component of the company’s larger intentions to include AI technologies into its browser, much like Microsoft is doing with Edge.

Only a few days have passed since Microsoft unveiled the AI-powered Bing and Edge. While the company’s search engine will provide users access to an AI chatbot that offers annotated responses to questions, Edge will come with an AI “copilot” that can similarly summarize webpages or articles in addition to creating text for social media postings and other things. This week, Google also demonstrated Bard, an AI search bot that isn’t currently accessible to people for a demo.

Per Wetterdal, Opera’s head of strategic partnerships and AI ecosystem, says in a statement: “We are excited to see the rapid roll-out of developer programs for solutions such as Google Bard, for example, and are starting to build and roll-out new experiences in web browsing that not very long ago seemed impossible to achieve.”

However, the “shorten” feature is not yet available to everyone. Opera stated that it will “launch in browsers very soon.”
