Waitrose customers prepare for the biggest ever vegan Christmas

  • Waitrose has added more vegan products than ever to their Christmas range to enable customers to have a full vegan Christmas dinner.
  • Waitrose Entertaining has seen orders for vegan and vegetarian lines increase by 49% compared to the previous year and this is predicted to increase further.

The big festive food shop has officially begun and with more customers enjoying a flexitarian diet, we predict many will be adapting this year’s Christmas dinner to include more vegan options with searches for ‘Vegan Christmas Food’ on Waitrose.com up 188% compared to the same time last year.

Searches for ‘Vegan Roast Potatoes’ have seen an increase of 166% compared to last year, with customers wanting to achieve the perfect crispy spud without using animal fat and the classic festive sweet treat is also high in demand with searches for ‘Vegan Panettone’ seeing an increase of 110% year-on-year.

With over 20 vegan products on offer this Christmas at Waitrose, this is the first year you can enjoy a full Waitrose vegan Christmas dinner, making sure nobody misses out.

Simona Cohen-Vida-Welsh, vegan product developer at Waitrose, said: “I love being able to make delicious meat-free swaps very accessible for our customers and I wanted Christmas to be no different. I am delighted we are now able to provide a vegan option for every course and with vegan and vegetarian Waitrose Entertaining orders up 49% compared to last year, I have no doubt that plant based products will continue to go from strength to strength. I am already excited to see how we can expand the range even further next Christmas.”

The Christmas party season is in full swing, as our brand new Vegan Mini No Beef Empanadas and Vegan Thai Style No Fishcakes take the top spot as best sellers so far this year.

Customers are also getting hands on in the kitchen this Christmas and having a go at their own vegan creations, as recipe searches for the Vegan nut wellington have increased by 10 fold compared to the same time last month and searches for Vegan yorkshire puddings are also up 94% month-on-month.
