UAE, Carrefour uses PopID’s face recognition technology for payments.

Network International, the region’s top digital commerce enabler, and Carrefour, which is owned and run by Majid Al Futtaim in the UAE, announced today that they have implemented the Face Pay face verification platform for payments from consumer authentication service provider PopID. This is a first for biometric payments in the UAE.

Customers may now use Face Pay to buy groceries, daily necessities, and other items at Carrefour stores in Deira and Amsaf. Customers may sign up for the service via the Carrefour website or mobile app, and then make purchases at Carrefour by grinning at the payment terminal rather of removing their phone or credit card. Based on patented face recognition technology created by PopID, this solution is made available through Network International’s acceptance network for widespread use throughout the UAE.

According to Bernardo Perloiro, Chief Operating Officer – GCC at Majid Futtaim Retail, “Carrefour is a leader in bringing innovative technologies that enhance the client experience, while discovering solutions that help minimize friction.” “Face verification will make it simpler and more practical for our clients to check out quickly — without having to dig out their wallets. We are thrilled to be one of the first shops to launch out this quick, secure payment method in the UAE in collaboration with PopID and Network International. It only takes a few seconds.

“With the UAE’s pioneering face verification technology, we are excited to continue advancing biometric payments. Face Pay promises to speed up, simplify, and streamline checkouts for a better consumer experience while protecting companies from possible fraud with strict security procedures, according to Network International’s Andrew Key, Group Managing Director of Acquiring. “Network International is honored to have launched Face Pay-enabled biometric payments acceptance in the nation before any other acquirer. We want to keep investing in strategic collaborations that expand the possibilities of payments across the UAE since we have a proven track record of being the leaders in payments innovation in the region.
