Temu, the new Chinese e-commerce competitor in the USA

According to CNN, A new online shopping platform tied to one of China’s largest retailers has quickly surpassed Amazon and Walmart as the most downloaded app in the United States. It is now attempting to profit on its appearance on America’s largest platform.

Temu, a Boston-based online retailer owned by Pinduoduo, the Chinese social commerce powerhouse, made its Super Bowl debut on Sunday.

Temu, which operates an online superstore for nearly anything — from home products to clothing to gadgets — debuted an advertisement during the game encouraging customers to “buy like a billionaire.”

“We want to share with our consumers that they may buy with a sense of freedom because of the pricing we offer,” a Temu spokeswoman said in a statement to CNN.

Temu, pronounced “tee-moo,” was introduced last year by PDD, Pinduoduo’s US-listed parent business.
This month, the corporation formally changed its name.

Temu, pronounced “tee-moo,” was introduced last year by PDD, Pinduoduo’s US-listed parent business. This month, the corporation formally changed its name.

Pinduoduo, a subsidiary of PDD, is one of China’s most popular e-commerce sites, with over 900 million members. It built a reputation for itself with a group-buying business strategy that allowed customers to save money by enlisting others to buy the same item in quantity.
