The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented increase in demand for food and household products. Over the last two weeks Tesco colleagues have worked round the clock to help customers get the products that they need.
In recognition of their incredible effort, and recognising the challenges that lie ahead, Tesco has today announced that it will be giving a 10% bonus on the hourly rate for hours worked to colleagues across its stores, distribution centres and customer engagement centres. For front line salaried managers, this will be a 10% bonus on actual hours worked. Backdated to Monday 9 March, all permanent colleagues who are currently in work will receive the increased hourly pay rate till Friday 1 May, when we will review the situation.
Jason Tarry, UK and ROI CEO said:
“It’s been an extraordinary couple of weeks and despite the enormous challenges, it’s been incredible to see how colleagues have stepped up and responded, doing an outstanding job during this uncertain and difficult time. This pay bonus is just one way we are saying thank you to our colleagues and recognising that they are on the front line, helping to feed the nation.”
Colleagues across Tesco in both ROI and Central Europe will be similarly rewarded, with announcements being made locally.
