Asda was awarded an impressive 36 awards at the Free From Awards, including two gold, fourteen silver and twenty bronze as well as the top accolade of the night, Free From Retailer of the Year.
The awards mark a celebration of Asda’s own brand Free From products, which strive to offer great quality and value for all customers. Success comes after a year of hard work improving the Free From offer, making the range more accessible and affordable for customers.
In a supermarket first, Asda invested £6.1m into pricing so customers who purchase Free From products do not have to pay more for their essential food items. A packaging redesign also modernised the range and enabled an easier shop for customers as well as removing 16.27 tonnes of plastic from packaging.
Health and quality have also been high on the agenda for the retailer. 593kg of salt and 4.4 tonnes of sugar have been removed from Free From products, significantly reducing the number of red traffic lights on packs and relevant products have been fortified to include vital vitamins. Improving the health credentials of products has meant more items are now included in Asda’s ‘Live Better’ scheme, which helps direct customers to healthier food choices.
As well as improving products, Asda has also been busy launching 38 new innovative items, taking Asda’s Free From offer to 202 products, expanding customer choice.
