Six thousand square meters of hi-tech surface area for a unique plant in Italy, where robots handle fruit and vegetables and prepare them for packaging in sustainable boxes, working alongside warehouse operators in a maximally efficient system that ensures maximum freshness of the product at the point of sale and waste reduction. Conad Nord Ovest inaugurated last February 16 in Montopoli Val d’Arno, in the province of Pisa, in its logistics hub of excellence a reference point in Central Italy, a new automatic picking system dedicated to fruit and vegetable products.
Built in collaboration with the company System Logistics, it is the first in Italy to operate with a fully automated picking system. Inspired by traditional processes, it employs state-of-the-art robots in activities of ventilation, preparation and storage of fruit and vegetable goods in environmentally sustainable CPR boxes, optimizing and speeding up the efficiency of processes and transportation, reducing food waste and consequently ensuring freshness and quality of products at the point of sale.
The Montopoli Distribution Center represents an excellence of innovation and sustainability in the Italian logistics scene and concretely testifies to Conad Nord Ovest’s commitment to make its logistics network and distribution centers increasingly sustainable and efficient, through concrete actions that benefit the environment and the community.
