Eroski and Caprabo are collecting funds in their supermarkets to help Turkey and Syria.

Eroski and Caprabo have launched fund-raising initiatives to help those affected by the earthquakes that have hit south-east Turkey and Syria. Customers will be able to make a voluntary donation of any amount they wish as they pass through the checkout line.

Specifically, the total amount donated will be channelled to Unicef’s emergency fund, through which the organisation is attending to the needs of the affected population, together with other international organisations, and in coordination with the country’s authorities, who are working urgently in Turkey and Syria to support the humanitarian response.

In addition to the money collected in its shops thanks to customer donations, Eroski will make an additional contribution, which will be added to the 7 million euros that the group allocates annually to social causes.

“The need for emergency aid in the face of this devastating situation urges us to offer our customers the possibility of channelling their help urgently, adding it to the aid that we at Eroski will be giving first hand. The donation is made at the checkout and for the amount that the consumers consider appropriate. Actions such as this campaign are very important in order to reach where it is most needed, and as quickly as possible. We are sure that, once again, consumers will respond to this appeal”, stressed Eroski’s Director of Health and Sustainability, Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa.

The Basque cooperative and its Foundation have made donations in excess of half a million euros during the last solidarity campaigns launched to help victims of natural disasters and other humanitarian causes in destinations such as Haiti (2010 and 2016), Lorca – Murcia (2011), the Philippines (2013), Nepal (2015), Syria (2015), Mallorca (2018), La Palma (2020). The last one, last year, was destined for the population affected by the crisis in Ukraine.
