Romania- Auchan and Profi’s partnership for a new concept

The local subsidiary of the French company Auchan and the Romanian retail chain Profi jointly announced a partnership for negotiations with the stated goal of enhancing the two networks’ bargaining power “to the benefit of end consumers.”

The concept, according to the businesses, “was created based on comparable partnerships in more mature retail markets and meets with legislative criteria to protect competition,” they added, adding that the arrangement’s main objective is to provide customers lower pricing.

“We believe it is appropriate to use our cumulative volumes in discussions with suppliers who have extremely high turnover rates in order to obtain more advantageous conditions [prices] for our customers. Given the current inflationary environment, it is common for two retailers to pool their purchasing power to form alliances that allow them to compete with the major food retail chains even more forcefully and guarantee better prices for customers “said Profi’s general manager Gatan Pacton.
