Sainsbury’s pulls into York Station

The newest store in the Sainsbury’s estate officially opened its doors this morning. Sainsbury’s York Station Local will offer nearby residents, commuters and tourists a convenient place to pick up their shopping, from 6am-11pm Monday through to Sunday.

The brand-new store, which is conveniently located in York’s railway station, will offer customers a wide range of grocery and household products as well the opportunity to pick up a fresh coffee from a self-service Costa coffee machine. The store is the second Sainsbury’s Local to open in York this year, following the opening of York Davygate Local in March.

Sainsbury’s is committed to supporting its communities and the 30 colleagues that make up the York Station team will play an active role in the local area and support Sainsbury’s nationwide community programmes and charity partners. Charities in the area that Sainsbury’s has recently supported include Changing Lives, SASH (Safe and Sound Homes) and IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services).

Sainsbury’s Property Director Patrick Dunne said: “I’m really delighted that we are opening our second new store in York this year in this long sought-after location for Sainsbury’s. It means that not only local residents, but those travelling to and from the city by rail, will be able to enjoy the convenience, quality and value that Sainsbury’s has to offer.”

Sainsbury’s York Station Store Manager Tom White said: “Our fantastic team of colleagues can’t wait to welcome customers through the door and provide them with our friendly service while they pick up their groceries.”
