B&M completes POS rollout across 790+ UK stores to improve operational agility and enhance CX in partnership with PMC

Abingdon, UK — Value retailer, B&M, has partnered with commerce technology specialist, PMC, to deploy a modernised Point of Sale (POS) solution spanning hardware and software across its entire estate to modernise store operations, improve agility and enhance customer experience (CX).

Operating one of the UK’s largest value retail estates, B&M wanted to modernise its store operations, replacing its legacy POS solution with new hardware and updated software that would deliver greater agility and future-proof its store systems. The value retailer also wanted to enhance in-store experiences as part of the refresh, adding new capabilities including faster transaction speeds, improved customer-focused functionality and reduced till friction.

With a sizable bricks-and-mortar footprint, spanning 790+ stores across its network, the digital transformation project needed to roll out at scale, at speed and with minimal disruption to day-to-day operations for colleagues and customers. This required a partner capable of delivering a repeatable, automated and low-risk model for upgrading its POS at scale.

Having worked together for over seven years across Managed Service IT provision, B&M selected PMC based on its proven track record for delivery as a trusted transformation partner and its long-standing experience working closely with the retailer’s internal IT teams.

Working closely with B&M, PMC alongside its POS partner Flooid, delivered a zero-touch, automation-led POS rollout, combining automated hardware builds, which significantly reduced the deployment time per store, removed the need for on-site engineering work and eliminated trading disruption, as well as centralised software deployment and real-time monitoring. This created a consistent, repeatable and scalable roadmap, allowing the rollout to progress at speed and scale, supported by PMC’s UK and India-based development and delivery teams, with the full-scale, post-pilot deployment starting in January 2026 and due to be completed in August 2026.

David Laithwaite, Implementation Services Manager at B&M, commented: “PMC have proven experience with delivering POS solutions. Their collaboration and seamless coordination with our other service provider and B&M staff have been exemplary. The synergy in communication and a joined-up working approach across the board has significantly enhanced our operational efficiency, enabling remarkable progress with this project.”

“We’ve seen PMC rise to the challenge, proactively plan for the narrow time window and ramp up resources to ensure the work gets done on time,” Sheila Whitfield, Retail Service Delivery Manager at B&M, added.

The POS upgrade has afforded B&M a more reliable, standardised and maintainable platform, helping to reduce faults while improving the experience for store colleagues, with increased uptime, faster transaction speeds and improved functionality to enhance UX and speed up colleague onboarding.

“By building in operational agility and more seamless checkout experiences, B&M has improved customer and colleague experiences,” said Jake Allmond, Managed Services Director at PMC. “The solution will not only create friction-free and faster transactions at the tills but will modernise B&M’s in-store technology landscape, allowing it to further enhance checkout capabilities in line with customer demands and evolving expectations.”
