From Amsterdam and Bologna to Madrid and Chicago, private label is becoming one of the most important meeting points in the global retail calendar
Private label is no longer simply the cheaper alternative sitting alongside established brands on the supermarket shelf.
It has become one of the most important areas of retail strategy — and the international exhibition calendar reflects that change.
Retailers are looking for products that can offer value, differentiation, innovation and stronger margins, while manufacturers are increasingly looking to private label contracts as a route into major supermarket chains and international markets.
For suppliers wanting to meet retail buyers, and for supermarket procurement teams searching for the next generation of own-brand products, the specialist private-label exhibitions have become essential business platforms.
Several major events are already confirmed for the coming months.
PLMA Amsterdam: the global meeting point
The biggest event on the European private-label calendar is the PLMA World of Private Label International Trade Show, which will return to RAI Amsterdam on 25–26 May 2027.
The event has been running for nearly 40 years and brings retailers together with manufacturers to find new products, suppliers and ideas for developing private-label programmes.
The scale is considerable.
PLMA says more than 3,300 exhibitors from 80 countries, with more than 70 country pavilions, are represented at the show. More than 18,000 retailers, wholesalers and other trade professionals from over 120 countries attend.
The exhibition covers both food and non-food, including fresh and frozen products, beverages, health and beauty, household products, kitchenware, DIY and other consumer categories.
One of its most interesting areas is the World of Ideas, which showcases new products and packaging innovations, retail trends and award-winning private-label products. The 2027 edition will feature a New Product Expo displaying innovations from more than 200 exhibitors from 35 countries.
For European supermarket buyers, PLMA Amsterdam remains one of the most important places to discover what could be appearing on private-label shelves over the following year.
MARCA Bologna: Italy’s private-label showcase
Before Amsterdam, the private-label industry will gather in Italy.
MARCA by BolognaFiere & ADM will take place in Bologna on 13–14 January 2027.
The event is Italy’s only trade show dedicated entirely to private label and brings together producers, co-packers and retailers across food, non-food and fresh products.
MARCA has become an important European sourcing platform, particularly for retailers looking for Italian food and consumer products.
The 2026 edition attracted more than 1,500 exhibitors and over 25,000 professional visitors, according to BolognaFiere.
The exhibition includes Food, Non-Food, MARCA Tech for packaging and MARCA Fresh, alongside areas dedicated to trends and innovation.
One of the show’s distinctive features is the direct involvement of major retailers, making it particularly relevant to manufacturers seeking private-label contracts rather than simply general brand exposure.
PRIVEL Madrid: a growing private-label hub
Spain is also strengthening its position in the international private-label market through PRIVEL – My Private Label Madrid.
The second edition is scheduled for 4–5 November 2026 at IFEMA Madrid.
PRIVEL is a relatively new event, but its first edition established Madrid as an emerging international private-label meeting point. IFEMA says the first edition attracted close to 5,000 professionals, while the 2026 edition had already reached nearly 220 confirmed companies and more than 4,600 square metres of exhibition space during its first marketing phase.
The exhibition is particularly significant for companies targeting the Spanish market, Southern Europe and connections between European and international suppliers.
It also demonstrates how private label is moving beyond the traditional European exhibition centres and becoming a strategic sector in its own right.
PLMA Chicago: the American private-label market
Private label is equally important in North America.
The PLMA U.S. Private Label Trade Show will take place in Chicago on 15–17 November 2026 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.
PLMA says the 2025 edition attracted more than 1,900 exhibitors from 60 countries, with products spanning food, beverages, fresh, frozen and refrigerated products as well as beauty, personal care, household, kitchenware and pet care.
The show attracts buyers from supermarkets, supercentres, drug chains, mass merchandisers, convenience stores, online retailers, importers, exporters, wholesalers and discounters.
For manufacturers looking to enter the US or Canadian retail market, this makes Chicago a particularly important event.

Why private-label exhibitions matter more than ever
The growth of private label reflects a fundamental change in the relationship between retailers, manufacturers and consumers.
Retailers want greater control over product development, pricing and differentiation. Consumers want value, but they increasingly expect private-label products to deliver quality, innovation and attractive packaging as well.
This is particularly important as supermarket competition intensifies.
Private label allows retailers to create products that cannot always be directly compared with national brands, while giving them greater control over the proposition offered to shoppers.
For manufacturers, meanwhile, private label provides access to retail networks that can be difficult to build through traditional branded products.
The result is a powerful business relationship:
Retailers need innovation. Manufacturers need distribution. Private label connects the two.
From budget products to premium private label
Perhaps the biggest change is the evolution of the private-label proposition itself.
Own-brand ranges now stretch from basic value products to premium, organic, health-focused, sustainable and highly specialised products.
The PLMA World of Ideas reflects this shift, with its retail trends section showcasing developments from global supermarkets, hypermarkets, discounters, speciality stores and drugstores.
Private label is therefore no longer simply about producing a cheaper version of an established branded product.
It is increasingly about creating products specifically for the retailer and its customers.
The next generation of private label
The exhibition calendar tells its own story.
Amsterdam, Bologna, Madrid and Chicago are becoming important meeting points for an industry that sits at the centre of modern retail.
For buyers, these exhibitions offer an opportunity to source new products and suppliers.
For manufacturers, they provide access to international retailers and procurement teams.
And for the wider grocery industry, they offer an early look at what could soon be filling supermarket shelves around the world.
Private label has moved from the margins of retail to the centre of the supermarket strategy — and the exhibition halls are where the next generation of own-brand products is being developed.
