Carrefour has delivered a strong performance in the first half of the year, demonstrating resilience in a challenging geopolitical and economic environment while making significant progress on its Carrefour 2030 strategic plan.
Speaking about the company’s latest results, Carrefour Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alexandre Bompard said the Group had performed well despite ongoing global uncertainty.
“We have delivered a very solid first-half performance. Carrefour is doing far more than simply resisting the current geopolitical crisis. These results demonstrate the resilience of our business model and our ability to adapt quickly to changing market conditions.”
Bompard highlighted that Carrefour is already seeing the first benefits of its Carrefour 2030 transformation strategy, which aims to strengthen competitiveness, modernise operations and improve the customer experience.
One of the key achievements has been an improvement in price competitiveness, particularly in the French market, where consumers continue to focus heavily on value amid cost-of-living pressures.
The retailer is also accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence across its operations while expanding its partnership with VusionGroup to introduce advanced electronic shelf label technology throughout its hypermarkets. The initiative is designed to improve pricing accuracy, automate store processes and enhance operational efficiency.
Fresh food remains another major priority. Carrefour continues to invest heavily in strengthening its fresh produce, meat, bakery and seafood departments as part of its strategy to reinforce customer loyalty and differentiate itself from competitors.
The Group has also continued to simplify its international portfolio, including the disposal of its Romanian business, allowing management to focus resources on markets offering stronger long-term growth opportunities.
Store expansion remains an important part of Carrefour’s development strategy. During the first six months of the year, the retailer opened 312 new convenience stores across France and Spain, further strengthening its neighbourhood retail network and responding to growing consumer demand for local shopping.
Bompard praised Carrefour employees for delivering the strong performance.
“These excellent results are a tribute to the dedication and commitment of our teams. I would also like to thank all our customers for their continued loyalty and trust.”
For the retail industry, Carrefour’s first-half performance demonstrates that investment in technology, competitive pricing, fresh food and convenience formats continues to be a winning combination. While many European retailers face pressure from inflation, cautious consumer spending and geopolitical uncertainty, Carrefour appears well positioned to continue executing its long-term Carrefour 2030 strategy.
