Asda confirmed that it expects a sales hit this quarter due to disruptions linked to the final stage of its IT separation from former parent company Walmart. The process, which involved migrating more than 2,500 systems across stores, depots, and offices, was described as one of the most complex IT overhauls in UK retail history.
The retailer admitted that the transition created short-term operational difficulties, including supply chain slowdowns and system inefficiencies. However, Asda management maintains that the separation will allow the business greater autonomy, flexibility, and control over its own future strategy.
Despite these assurances, market analysts warn that Asda faces a challenging path in regaining sales momentum while also competing with price-aggressive rivals like Aldi and Lidl.
