Kroger has recently introduced a series of changes across its U.S. stores, but not all have been warmly received by customers. Among the updates are shopping cart locking sensors designed to prevent theft, altered coupon policies that restrict flexibility, and the introduction of digital shelf labels. While the company argues these innovations improve efficiency and reduce costs, shopper feedback has been mixed, with some claiming the measures add inconvenience to their weekly shop.

At the same time, Kroger continues to roll out remodelled stores and digital initiatives to support its e-commerce growth. Analysts note that while customer resistance is notable, such changes are often part of a longer-term retail adjustment where initial pushback eventually gives way to acceptance, as seen in other markets.

With its merger plans with Albertsons still under regulatory scrutiny, Kroger is working to maintain stability while navigating both customer perception and political challenges.
