Supreme Service Solutions LLC, operating under the name Supreme Produce, has issued a voluntary recall of fresh cucumbers sourced from Bedner Growers Inc. following concerns over possible Salmonella contamination.
The affected products were distributed to Kroger and its affiliated grocery chains in nine states, including Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.
The recall comes after an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) linked the cucumbers to a Salmonella outbreak that has so far caused 26 reported illnesses across 15 states.
Included in the recall are not only whole cucumbers but also pre-packaged salad and vegetable trays that contain fresh cucumbers.
Salmonella is a potentially dangerous bacteria that can lead to serious health issues, particularly in young children, elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems. In healthy people, symptoms often include fever, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, the infection can lead to arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis.
Consumers who purchased any of the affected products are advised to dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the product is urged to seek medical attention.
Kroger has not announced how many stores were impacted, but the recall is being taken seriously in line with public health protocols.
