Tesco Issues Urgent Recall and Files Lawsuit Amid Buyback Programme

Tesco found itself at the centre of multiple headlines on 3 September 2025. The retailer was forced to urgently recall its Stir Fry Tikka Chicken ready meal after undeclared allergens were found in the accompanying sauce sachet. The 650g product, with a use-by date of 7 September, contained traces of egg and mustard, prompting serious health warnings to allergy sufferers. Tesco has advised customers not to consume the meal and to return it for a full refund, even without a receipt.

Alongside the recall, Tesco launched legal action against Broadcom and Computacenter over alleged breaches of VMware licensing contracts. The supermarket giant warned that disruptions in its digital infrastructure could have a direct impact on the supply of food to shelves.

Meanwhile, Tesco’s ongoing £1.45 billion share buyback programme continued, with the repurchase of over 944,000 ordinary shares on 2 September. The shares were cancelled, reducing the overall number in circulation to around 6.5 billion.
