Tesco Unveils 2026 Expansion Strategy, Including Conversion of Former Amazon Fresh Stores

Tesco has announced ambitious expansion plans for 2026, reinforcing its commitment to delivering quality products at competitive prices to more communities across the UK.

After launching 60 new Tesco Express stores in 2025, the retailer is set to accelerate its convenience growth, targeting more than 70 additional Express openings by March 2027.

A key part of this expansion follows Tesco’s acquisition of five former Amazon Fresh locations in London. The sites — located on Kensington High Street, in Hounslow, Moorgate, Aldgate East and Wembley — will be converted into Tesco Express stores and are expected to reopen before the summer.

Further Express stores are scheduled to open in 2026 in several communities across the UK, including Bickington (Devon), Pontrhydyrun (Torfaen), Strabane (County Tyrone) and Wallyford (East Lothian).

Alongside its convenience growth, Tesco is also strengthening its larger store portfolio. After recently opening new superstores in Ripon and Harrogate towards the end of 2025, the retailer has confirmed that two additional large-format stores will launch in Scotland in 2026, located in Pitlochry and Heartlands.
