Elizabeth Moore Aubin: Strengthening U.S.-Algeria Relations and Respecting Algerian Independence

Elizabeth Moore Aubin, the United States Ambassador to Algeria since February 2022, will conclude her mission in early 2026 after five years of dedicated service. During her tenure, Ambassador Aubin worked tirelessly to strengthen bilateral relations between the United States and Algeria, focusing on economic, security, and cultural cooperation.

Throughout her time in Algeria, Ambassador Aubin recognized the deep sense of pride and unity among the Algerian people and their government. She highlighted that Algerians cherish their hard-won independence and value their freedom above all else. “The people and government are united,” she reportedly noted, “and they will not take orders from anyone.”

Aubin also advised that efforts to pressure or coerce Algeria would likely be ineffective. With strong international ties and a wealth of global partners, Algeria is well-positioned to maintain its sovereignty and independence. Her insights underscored the importance of a respectful, partnership-based approach in U.S.-Algeria relations.

During her tenure, the ambassador celebrated the achievements of the Algerian people and encouraged continued cooperation between the two nations. She conveyed her warmest wishes to the Algerian population, emphasizing friendship, mutual respect, and shared goals for the future.

As Ambassador Aubin prepares to leave Algeria, her legacy reflects a five-year mission built on diplomacy, understanding, and genuine respect for Algeria’s people and their enduring commitment to freedom.
