Lidl US Opens Its Largest Distribution Centre in Georgia Boosting Southeastern Supply Chain

Lidl US has officially opened its largest and most advanced distribution centre to date in Covington Georgia a strategic move aimed at strengthening the German retailers supply chain footprint across the southeastern United States The new facility spanning more than 900000 square feet serves as a pivotal logistics hub that will support the growing network of Lidl stores across Georgia South Carolina Alabama and parts of Florida as the company continues its ambitious expansion plans across the US

The state of the art distribution centre was developed with a clear focus on efficiency sustainability and scalability Designed to handle over 200 truckloads per day the facility uses automated systems to streamline the intake storage and outbound distribution of thousands of products including fresh produce dairy dry goods and private label groceries that Lidl is known for in global markets

Michael Lindner CEO of Lidl US said the opening marks a major milestone in Lidl’s investment in American infrastructure and job creation He added that the new centre will reduce delivery times improve product freshness and lower operational costs all of which benefit the consumer directly by enabling even lower shelf prices and faster replenishment cycles for stores in high growth regions

The Covington facility represents a 100 million dollar investment and will create more than 270 full time jobs in the region ranging from logistics planners and forklift operators to quality control specialists and maintenance engineers It is also expected to indirectly support hundreds of additional jobs through transportation partnerships local suppliers and regional contractors

Lidl has made significant gains in the US grocery market since launching in 2017 and now operates over 200 stores across nine states with a growing presence in the Southeast where it competes directly with Publix Walmart Aldi and regional chains such as Ingles Markets and Food Lion Analysts say the addition of the Covington distribution centre could double the supply capacity of Lidl US in the South allowing for faster market penetration and more consistent shelf stocking
