The app announced its exit from Chile and Colombia a few weeks ago. Inretail Peru owns the digital wallet and delivery app Agora.
In a major development, Inretail, a holding company of the Peruvian group Intercorp, has announced the purchase of 100% of the shares of the virtual supermarket Jokr in Peru.
The German-based platform had been valued at US$1.2 billion and managed to reach unicorn status by the end of 2021. Before that, in Latin America it had already started its expansion in Mexico. It then started operating in Colombia, Peru (launched in May 2021), Brazil (under the Daki brand), and Chile.
Jokr had announced a few weeks ago its definitive exit from Colombia and Chile, at a time when it was also competing against Rappi’s hidden shop services and other apps such as Uber’s Cornershop.
Last November, they indicated that they would continue to operate normally in Mexico, Peru and Brazil. Its strategy, they added, would be focused on “strengthening its presence in markets that have reached a larger scale and, in this way, strengthen our path to profitability”.
