Morrisons has announced the launch of Myton International, a new international sourcing division designed to strengthen the retailer’s global sourcing capabilities while creating new opportunities for international food manufacturers to enter the UK market. The initiative forms part of the supermarket’s broader strategy to grow revenue beyond its traditional retail operations and maximise the potential of its manufacturing business.
The new division will operate within Myton Food Group, Morrisons’ manufacturing arm, which operates 17 production sites across the UK. These facilities manufacture, process and package a wide range of products, including meat, fish, fresh produce, bakery items and dairy products for Morrisons as well as other retail and foodservice customers.
Myton International will work directly with overseas food manufacturers and brands, providing an end-to-end sourcing solution that enables international products to be produced, packed and supplied to UK retail, foodservice and business-to-business customers. The division will focus on delivering innovation, quality and value while helping overseas suppliers access one of Europe’s most competitive grocery markets.
Chris Strong, General Manager of Myton International, said the new business will build on Morrisons’ long-established manufacturing expertise.
“By leaning into our established manufacturing capabilities and our vast network, we are uniquely positioned to bring world-class products to the UK market. Our goal is to offer a seamless, end-to-end sourcing function that delivers both innovation and value to our partners.”
The move reflects Morrisons’ strategy under Chief Executive Rami Baitiéh to increase the commercial reach of its manufacturing operations. In addition to supplying its own supermarkets, the retailer is expanding relationships with other retailers, foodservice operators and international partners, creating new revenue streams beyond its core supermarket estate.
For international exporters, the launch of Myton International presents a significant opportunity. Food producers seeking access to the UK market will be able to benefit from Morrisons’ manufacturing infrastructure, supply chain expertise and established retail relationships, reducing barriers to entry and accelerating product launches.
The initiative also highlights a wider trend within European food retailing. Supermarkets are increasingly leveraging their manufacturing, logistics and sourcing capabilities as standalone businesses, providing services not only to their own stores but also to external retail and foodservice customers.
As competition intensifies across the grocery sector, Morrisons is positioning Myton International as a platform that combines British manufacturing expertise with international sourcing, offering overseas suppliers a gateway into the UK market while strengthening the retailer’s own commercial growth strategy.
