Nathan Ansell, Chief Customer Officer at Waitrose, Appointed President-Elect of the Advertising Association

The UK advertising industry is preparing for a new chapter following the announcement that a new President-Elect has been appointed to lead the Advertising Association from next spring.

In a personal announcement shared with colleagues and the wider industry, the incoming President described the appointment as a tremendous honour and expressed enthusiasm about working alongside Stephen Woodford, Chief Executive of the Advertising Association, as well as the organisation’s council of industry leaders.

Before formally taking office, the President-Elect will spend the coming months working closely with the Association while current President Andria Vidler completes her term.

Commenting on the appointment, the President-Elect said:

“I just can’t tell you what an honour this is. I can’t wait to work closely with Stephen Woodford, the fantastic team and stellar council of industry leaders. For now I’ll be learning the ropes as President Elect whilst Andria Vidler completes her term.”

The appointment comes at a time when the advertising industry is facing rapid technological change, evolving consumer expectations and increasing demands for transparency, sustainability and responsible marketing.

The incoming President believes advertising has an important role to play beyond simply promoting products and services. According to the statement, responsible advertising can have a transformative impact on businesses, communities and the wider economy.

The President-Elect emphasised a commitment to working with members of the Association to continue strengthening public trust in advertising while encouraging greater inclusion and effectiveness across the industry.

Looking ahead, the new President outlined a vision focused on collaboration and building on the work already undertaken by the Association.

“Having seen first-hand the transformative impact that responsible advertising can have on businesses and communities, I am eager to collaborate with our members to build on the fantastic work already underway. Together, we will lead our efforts in promoting a more trusted, inclusive, and effective advertising landscape that delivers real value for everyone and demonstrates the essential contribution our industry makes to the UK economy.”

The Advertising Association represents advertisers, agencies, media owners and technology companies across the UK, advocating for the industry’s interests while promoting responsible advertising standards. The organisation plays an influential role in shaping policy, encouraging best practice and highlighting advertising’s significant contribution to economic growth.

As President-Elect prepares to assume the role next spring, industry leaders will be watching closely to see how the Association continues to address emerging challenges, including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, consumer privacy and the future of responsible advertising.

The appointment signals continuity as well as ambition, with a clear focus on strengthening trust in advertising and ensuring the sector continues to support innovation, business growth and the UK’s economy.
