After a successful pilot last year, the UK’s fastest-growing supermarket is now distributing excess food bags nationally in an effort to reduce food waste while simultaneously offering consumers reduced costs.
The ‘Magic Bags’ will feature a variety of supermarket goods that are nearing their sell-by or use-by dates at a fraction of the cost, costing only £3.30 apiece for at least £10 worth of food.
To obtain a Magic Bag, customers must first download the free Too Good To Go app and search for their nearest Aldi store before reserving a bag to pick up from the store at a certain time.
The countrywide roll-out is estimated to prevent an additional 4,000 tonnes of food from going to waste each year, and is an important component of Aldi’s continuous commitment to reduce food waste.
Furthermore, all Aldi UK stores will continue to give excess food to local charities 365 days a year. Through its successful cooperation with Neighbourly, the grocer has provided over 30 million meals since 2019.
“Rolling out our relationship with Too Good To Go is another method for us to cut down on food waste while also providing consumers the chance to pick up our food at even cheaper pricing,” said Liz Fox, corporate responsibility director at Aldi UK.
“With growing living costs affecting so many people, Too Good To Go provides a simple and accessible option for customers to save money and minimize waste.”
